摘要
2007年制定的《大学英语课程教学要求》对一般要求的词汇量要求是4795个,这个要求不仅没有与中学英语教学合理衔接,也没有反映出大学新生的英语词汇量实际情况;不仅不能保证《大学英语课程教学要求》中各项目标的实现,而且还会造成大学英语教学效率下降,阻碍大学英语教学的进一步发展。要求过低主要原因是受制于大学英语四级考试等因素。我们认为大学英语一般要求词汇量应在1万个词左右,这不仅有助于大学英语教学的健康发展,也将对高中英语、研究生英语,乃至我国整个英语教学的发展产生深刻的影响。
College English Curriculum Requirements stipulate that Chinese college students should acquire a total of 4 795 words during their college English study.This requirement,however,fails to take into account the high school English teaching and the actual ability of the freshmen.The low vocabulary requirement not only hinders the attainment of the teaching objectives,but also leads to the low efficiency of English teaching at college.We suggest that college graduates should at least acquire 10 000 words.The upgraded requirement will not only contribute to college English teaching,but also benefit high school and postgraduate English teaching,and may have impact on English teaching of the society at large.
