Most cultures value talent, yet few nations have been able to create sustainable cultures of talent development. Lack of common definitions, overemphasis on academic aspects of talent, and lack of research and evaluation are the reasons for this struggle. Suggestions for addressing these issues are provided as follows: first, we need to find common definitions of giftedness, talent, and creativity to ensure that everyone has a shared understanding of our goals; second, we must acknowledge that talent is a muhi-faceted, complex construct and not merely academic or cognitive in nature; third, we simply must do a better job of evaluating our efforts to foster and nurture talent.
