摘要
简约与冗余构成科研论文标题翻译的两大特色。但如何自如地运用简约与冗余的手段来译出简洁、准确的英文标题通常让作(译)者感到为难。如果在突出信息中心、保证语义完整、用词严密朴实的原则下,运用短语化、省略、缩写、合并和意译等简约手段能使标题语言活泼明快,言简意赅;以信息安全、易于解读和尊重原文隐义为原则,运用信息复现和语义增词等冗余手段则可以避免标题语言的晦涩,从而实现标题译文充分达意的功能。二者结合往往会获得双重效果。
Brevity and redundancy are two major features in translating the headlines of the research papers. But how to use with ease the techniques of brevity and redundancy to get the brief and exact English headlines often bothers the authors or translators. This discourse puts forward: adhering to the principles of highlighting the significant information, maintaining the complete meanings and using the exact and popular words, we can apply the techniques of brevity, such as phrases, ellipses, abbreviation, combinations and paraphrases to make the translated headlines lively, brief and to the point; While following the principles of securing the information, easily decoding the translated headlines and maintaining the implications in the Chinese headlines, we can apply the techniques of redundancy, such as repeating the information and adding more words to the headlines according to the original meanings to avoid the obscure languages and achieve the fully expressive function of the translated headlines. Combining both of the techniques we'll get dual results in translating the headlines of the research papers.
