This paper focuses on the challenges of weak connection between external social organizations and residents in the collaborative community governance.Using role theory as an analytical framework and adopting a case study approach,it explores the role dilemma and structural constraints underlying these weak connections. The findings reveal that project-based social organizations face issues such as role misalignment, marginalization and insufficient functional complementarity in collaborative governance. These challenges stem from the conflict between the top-down"group-supported role interaction model"and the bottom-up"individual-to-organization hierarchical differential model".To strengthen the connection between social organizations and residents,it is suggested to cultivate community-based self-organization,deeply integrate them into residents'social networks, thereby enhancing the overall effectiveness of collaborative governance.Furthermore, when individuals interact with different organizational entities, due to differences in structural factors such as organizational positioning and cultural norms, they consciously exhibit diverse role functions and behavioral patterns. This broadens the application boundaries of role theory in studying both individual and organizational behaviors.
