As shown by the experience of the world s first- class universities,itis highly beneficial to establish research credits for undergraduate students. This paper discusses three facets of this significantissue:1 ) the origin of research credits for undergraduates, 2 ) an analysis of cases of undergraduate research credits at some top universities,and3) suggestions for setting up a research credit system for undergraduates at China s universities.
