Since the first Sino-Japanese war , the modern space conception, which contains elements of"world"--"nation" --"country", have taken the place of traditional space conception which contains"home" - " nation" - " world". Based on this modern space conception, the new Chinese intellectuals began to acquaint the world once again. Under the pressure of saving the nation, new Chinese intellectuals not only generated modern regional consciousness, but also engaged to modern regional historiography. In order to get people recognize and love the nation better through their affection for hometown, and to get idea of improving the nation come to fruition by hometown improvement practice, even though there were different situation and various writing form in these intellectuals who were engaged to regional historiography, but they do had three common characteristics., founding the position of hometown in the modern space conception, hoping to enhance the passion to the nation through arousing affection for regional, trying to find regional specialty for the better practice of improving the region. With several years of actual experience, some questions like whether regional historiography directed by regional consciousness could enhance the national identification or not, how to keep the contents from dull and repetitive, and how to deal with regional racial conflict, had appeared and restricted the development of regional historiography in the late Oing dynasty.
