摘要
英语无灵主语句谚语是英语谚语中的一个小类。经过对5部英语谚语辞书和词典的统计与分析发现：以英语无灵主语句出现的英语谚语占其总数的12％-20％，分布的疏密与谚语所涉及的主题有关。英语无灵主语句谚语具有三大特征：1）简洁精练、音形优美；2）委婉客观、寓意深邃；3）形象生动、联想丰富。直译英语无灵主语句谚语，必须设法揭示其寓意；对译英语无灵主语句谚语，必须努力忠实其寓意。
English proverbs in the form of sentences with inanimate subjects belong to a small category of proverbs. Data from a case study of 5 books and dictionaries on English proverbs show that the size of this category is about 12% to 20% of the total and that its distribution is closely related to the themes of proverbs. This category of English proverbs has three characteristics： 1） brief and concise in form, and attractive in rhythm and rhyme; 2） euphemistic and objective in meaning, and rich in implication; 3） vivid in image and close in association. Literal translation of this categart should be based on its transoarencv, and the faithfulness to the imolication.
