摘要
《论语》英译在中西方文化交流中扮演着重要的角色。旨在从欧洲中心主义的角度出发研究分析19世纪的《论语》英译,探讨欧洲中心主义以及由其带来的文化中心主义对译者在翻译策略的抉择上所带来的影响。指出译者因受当时的社会环境和文化背景的制约以及自身所持有的翻译动机和文化态度的影响,在翻译过程中习惯性地用欧洲文化思想的术语来束缚思维,对儒家思想进行了有意的歪曲和批判,从而最终影响到了读者对文本的客观理解。
The C--E translation of The Analects plays quite an important role in the history of cultural communication between China and western countries. The paper, from the perspective of Eurocentrism, aims to analyze the translation of The Analects in the 19th century and the influence of Ethnocentrism brought about by Eurocentrism on the choice of the translators＂ translating strategies. It points out that under the constraint of social and cultural background and the motivation and cultural attitudes of the translators, they consciously adopted the terms from the European cultures and critically distorted the Confucianism, which might make readers unable to understand the Confucianism objectively.
