摘要
羊八井大型高海拔空气簇射观测站(LHAASO)计划中,为研究20TeV以上的伽马射线天文和宇宙线物理,提出了建设1km^2地面簇射粒子阵列(KM2A)的设计方案。其中的塑料闪烁体探测器(ED)要用到5 000多个光电倍增管,对选用的光电倍增管的性能指标(线性度、增益及其一致性等)有着较高的要求。重点研究了地磁场对XP2012B型光电倍增管增益的影响,实验清晰给出了光电倍增管在不同摆放方式下其增益受地磁场影响的变化规律,结果表明最大增益差别约为10%。由此,对未来LHAASO计划电子探测器中的光电倍增管的放置提出了建议。
As one of the main components of the Large High Altitude Air Shower Observatory (LHAASO) project, a one -square-kilometer ground array (KM2A) is designed to study gamma ray astronomy and eosmie ray physics at energies above 20 TeV. Over 5,000 photomultiplier tubes (PMTs) are used to measure the lights yielded in the scintillation detectors by eharged particles in air showers. High performances, including linearity, gain and its eonsistency among PMTs, etc, are strongly required for these PMTs. The geomagnetic field plays an important role in the above parameters. An experiment is setup to measure the effects of geomagnetic field on performances of a candidate PMT XP2012B. The results show clearly the differences of PMT gain, with a maximum of 10% , with different displacements of the PMT in the geomagnetic field. Displacements to eliminate the geomagnetic effects are suggested for the LHAASO project.
