Gastric electrical stimulation (GES) is a kind of gastric pacing ( including the impulse generator and the bipolar leads) used for destroying the normal gastric electrical-mechanical function. GES has been used as one method of treatment for obesity recently. The advantage of GES is to decrease food intake by inducing early-satiety and inhibiting appetite without changing the anatomy of gastrointestinal tract while keeping the function of digestion and absorption. Up to now, many clinical studies have showed that GES could induce significant weight loss without obvious side-effect. This paper reviews these researches in order to encourage deeper investigations.
