Abstract This paper discusses the micropropagation of Australian tree species, therapid clonal propagation of Musa, Rapid propagation of Bamboos. The Case studies ofAspen and Cashe`t,,, vegetative propagation of Populus and Salix. rooding trials withstem cuttings of Erythrina poeppigiana , development of highylelding clonal of Eucalyp-tus in the Congo. The biotechnology has gained unprecedented progress during the pasttwo decades. One can predict with certainly that asexually produced trees will comprisea significant portion of forest planting stock in the future, while propagation by rootedcuttings will continue in the future for some species such as hybrids of Populus, Eu-calyptus and other, micropropagation has three main advantages: much higher multiplication rates; a greater degree of control i and the sn'iall space required. So far, rapidpropagation of fast-growing and multipurpose trees on a large has been achieved throughsimple tissue and cell culture in only a few species. Such technologies are expected to beboth technically and economically feasible in many developing countries. Certain speciesof Acacia, Casuarina, Eucalyptus, Paulownia and Populus, offer the best examples.Tissue culture as a tool for advancing clonal forestry has been used quite successfully fora number of fast-growing species. Greater success has been achieved with some poplarhybrids and in Paulmenia.
