Using nicotinic acid and aryl amines as the base stock, 1-(3-pyridyl)-4-aryl thiosemicarbazides were prepared as results of multistep reactions. The ring-closure of 1-(3-pyridyl)-4-aryl thiosemicarbazides in the presence of hydrazine hydrate gave the title compounds 3-(3-pyridyl)-4-amino-5-arylamino-1,2,4-triazoles, whose structures have been established by elemental analysis, IR, 1H NMR and 13C NMR spectra.
