摘要
本文将综合指标和具体句型相结合,提出了多维整合分析模式,研究和解释中国大学生英语议论文的句法复杂性。结果如下:1)学生的T单位显著长于英语本族语者;2)学生连用口语体从句,但定语从句显著偏少,C/T、DC/T和CT/T值显著偏大;3)学生少用并列句(T/S值更小),多用并列谓语词组(CP/T和CP/C值更大);4)两组语料的CN/T和CN/C值无显著差异,但学生少用做后置定语的分词和介词短语。讨论显示,学生英语句法复杂性的问题,可追溯到汉语强空间性思维习惯的影响。本文对句法复杂性研究方法的改进和大学生句法复杂性能力的培养有重要的启示。
Integrated multi-dimensional analysis,a framework studying syntactic complexity using omnibus measures and examining types of structures produced,was created by the authors to investigate syntactic complexity demonstrated in Chinese EFL learners'English argumentative texts.Major results include:1)Chinese EFL learners,compared with English native speakers,tend to produce longer T units;2)Learners'texts show larger C/T,DC/C and CT/T ratios due to sequences of conversational clauses but significantly fewer relative clauses;3)Learners use insufficient coordinate clauses but more coordinate finite VP phrases,contributing to greater smaller T/S,but greater CP/T,CP/C ratios;4)CN/T and CN/C in learners'and native speakers'texts present no significant difference,while participles and prepositional phrases as noun postmodifier are statistically less frequent in learners'production.Analysis attributes insufficient syntactic complexity on learners'part to interference of Chinese,a spatiality-prominent language.This study has positive implications for studying syntactic complexity and helping students achieve syntactic complexity.
