摘要
本研究以汉民族首部创世神话史诗《黑暗传》及其英译本为研究对象,梳理出128个文化术语及其英译并将其分为四类:宇宙观术语、神话人物术语、民俗仪式术语和宗教哲学概念术语。研究发现,宇宙观术语和民俗仪式术语多用意译,神话人物术语和宗教哲学概念术语音译和意译分布较平均。在处理音译、意译术语时,都存在过度重视可读性而忽略术语文化内涵、牺牲文化深度的问题。通过探讨发现,翻译《黑暗传》中文化术语时可多采用“意译+解释”或者“音译+解释”的译法。未来可考虑建立《黑暗传》标准双语、甚至多语种术语库,以助力民间神话从地方性叙事向全球性文化资源的跨越。
This study takes The Legend of Darkness,the first creation myth epic of the Han nationality,and its English translation as the research objects.It combs out 128 cultural terms and their English translations and classifies them into four categories:terms of the worldview,terms of mythological figures,terms of folk ritual and terms of religious and philosophical concepts.The study finds that the terms of the worldview and folk ritual are mostly translated in a free way,while the distribution of literal translation and free translation for the terms of mythological figures and religious and philosophical concepts is relatively even.In dealing with literal translation and free translation terms,there is a problem of over-emphasizing readability while neglecting the cultural connotations of the terms,sacrificing the depth of culture.Through exploration,it is found that the translation method of“free translation+explanation”or“literal translation+explanation”can be mostly adopted when translating the cultural terms in The Legend of Darkness.In the future,consideration can be given to establishing a standard bilingual and even multilingual term database for The Legend of Darkness,so as to help the folk myth make a leap from“local narrative”to“global cultural resource”.
