This study employs Critical Discourse Analysis(CDA)as its theoretical framework to decipher the mechanisms of linguistic strategies and ideological construction in Emperor Akihito’s 2019 abdication speech, integrating Japan’s sociocultural context and linguistic specificities.Centering on the multifunctional honorific system(keigo)in the Emperor’s address, this analysis demonstrates how linguistic strategies construct a symbolic narrative of“the unity of sovereign and subjects”.Through deliberate deployment of metaphors and temporal ambiguity, the speech accomplishes the transformation of the imperial system from a political entity into a cultural symbol while strategically severing historical accountability. The study further reveals how multimodal semiotics and media manipulation tactics repackage the imperial institution as a depoliticized apparatus of emotional solidarity. It both encodes the will to power and undermines historical critique, with its social effect manifesting as the rhetorical domestication of public perception.Ultimately, through linguistic sanctification and affective mobilization, the speech achieves an invisible colonization of modern democratic discourse.
