American regional studies, initially an extension of the European academic tradition, boosted during the Second World War,prospered in the Cold War period and with the Cold War coming to an end,it gradually entered a new adjustment period. On the whole,is driven by laissez-faire philosophy and government-demands,American regional studies successively experienced the region-centered,discipline-centered,problem-centered evolution approach, thus forming a situation in which power and knowledge are mutually constructed, under the impetus of hegemonism, with discourse competition and knowledge hegemony complement to each other, and with the globalization and the knowledge politics interacting with each other. These factors jointly serve the logic of knowledge politics by which the U.S.national interest expands on a global scale.Meanwhile, the American regional research institutes have been facing increasingly acute problems such as the dispute over the subjectivity of disciplines between humanities and social sciences, the dispute over the relationship between the production of knowledge and the service of capitalism, and the dispute over the relationship between statism and liberalism, and these are essentially the result of a collusion among power, capital and knowledge.
