Based on the original text of Treatise on Cold Damage and Miscellaneous Diseases, this essay aims to analyze the application regularity of Danggui(Angelicae Sinensis Radix) in classical prescriptions from the aspects of indications and compatibility.(1)In Treatise on Cold Damage,Danggui is used in four prescriptions of Jueyin chapter. The indications involves blood aspect, compatible with warm and hot herbs, medicinals for purging fire and removing toxin, which is consistent with the pathogenesis characteristics of Jueyin disease, yin exhaustion and yang generation, cold and heat in complexity.(2)Classical formulas containing Danggui in Synopsis of Golden Chamber are mainly found in three chapters focused on gynecological diseases. The patients mentioned in the three chapters often have abdominal pain of different degree.Danggui is often used in combination with Shaoyao(Paeoniae Radix Alba) and Chuanxiong(Chuanxiong Rhizoma). If the indication is accompanied by deficiency syndrome,Dihuang(Rehmannia Radix) should be added and combined with medicinals for tonifying deficiency such as Shanyao( Dioscorea Panthaicae Rhizoma), Renshen( Ginseng Radix Et Rhizoma),Ejiao(Asini Corii Colla). It can be known that the efficacy of Siwu Decoction is not limited to nourish blood, but should be combined with dosage ratio and prescription compatibility.(3)Danggui combined with Shengma(Cimicifugae Rhizoma) are used for sore throat.
