The slab surface temperature has been measured in second cooling zone of slab caster at Wuyang Iron and Steel Co., Ltd.. The effect of second cooling water distribution of surface temperature distribution has been analyzed. The effect of surface temperature on surface cross cracks has been analyzed in detail. It is pointed out that the important reason for cross crack formation is that 16Mn slab edge temperature falls into the third brittleness zone.
