角胫象属Shirahoshizo Morimoto,1962隶属象虫科隐喙象亚科,模式种为Cryptorhynchus rufescens Roelofs.本属昆虫多寄生于松属植物,有些是我国重要林业害虫,如马尾松角胫象Shiraho shizo flavonotatus(Voss),其成虫侵入衰弱的黄山松和堆积的马尾松原木,和其它钻蛀性害虫一起,造成严重危害。
Some species of the weevil genus Shirahoshizo are serious pests to pine trees in China and Japan. So far only four species have been described from China. In this paper four species of this genus are described as new to science and one as new to China , and one species is treated as a synonym.The type specimens are preserved in the Institute of Zoology, Academia Sinica. The descriptions of new species and the notes of some species are summarized as follows:1. Shirahoshizo erectussp. nov.[Figs 1,8(a,e)]Reddish brown or brownish black; body closely covered with brownish and dark brownish scales, white scales forming four spots on pro no tum and a short stripe before scutellum, and six spots on elytra, of which two pairs on the 4th and 5th intervals a little before the middle and another pair on the 3rd interval a little behind the middle; furthermore white scales forming a few irregular vague spots and white single scales separated on elytra; the 3rd, 5th and 7th intervals bearing one row of suberect scales, remaining intervals bearing more than one row . Male aedeagus as shown in Fig. 1. Length 3.0-5.1mm, breadth 2.3-3.0mm.This new species is related to S. coni ferae Chao, but differs from the latter in the elytra with sparse irregular white spots; the pronotum without medial keel; the elytral intervals depressed; punctured striae narrowed; the tip of penis narrowed rapidly.Holotype (?) , Zhejang (Linan), 21-Ⅷ-1980, collected by the Forestry Research Institute of Zhejiang; allotype (?) , ditto. Shirahoshizo tuberosus sp. nov. [Fig. 8(b,f)]Brownish black; body closely covered with black scales; erect white scales forming four spots on pronotum and three pairs of spots on the 4th -6th intervals of elytra before the middle ; each of the 2nd to 7th intervals bearing several tuberculi of erect black scales; the base and subapex of femora covered with white scales . Length 5.9-6.2mm, breadth 2.7-2.8mm.This new species can be easily separated from its congeners by the elytra with several tuberculi of erect black scales.Holotype (?), Shaanxi(Mianxian), 5-Ⅴ-1957, collected by the Institute of Zooloy , Academia Sinica. Paratypes: 1 (?), ditto; 1 (?), same locality, 1958.3. Shirahoshizo squamesus sp. nov.[Figs7. 8(c,g)]Brownish black; covered with yellowish and dark brown scales; each of the elytral intervals bearing a row of broad suberect scales; 4th-6th intervals having 3 pairs of white spots , among which that of the 4th interval the biggest, punctured striae very strong, slightly narrower than or as broad as the interval. Length 4.9mm, breadth 2.2mm.This new species is close to S. rugipennis Morimoto, but may be easily distinguished from the latter by its long club, which is over 3 times as long as wide (Fig.7).Holotype (?), Yunnan (Lushui), 2300m, 28-Ⅴ-1981, collected by Wang Shuyong.4. Shirahoshizo lineonus sp. nov. [Figs 5, 8(d,h)]This new species is similar to S. insidiosus Roelofs, but may be distinguished from the latter by the surface of rostrum being glossy and with small and indistinct striae before the antennal insertion; punctured striae of elytra very strong, odd intervals broader and higher than the even ones; the 3rd, 5th and 7th intervals bearing a row of broad suberect scales.
