摘要
哈钦斯是美国著名的高等教育改革家和思想家,“通才教育”是其教育思想的精髓。在实用主义和功利主义泛滥的背景下,他提出了普通教育的理念,并在课程上设计出“基础教育”与“专业教育”两个层次。他极力维护学术自由与大学独立性的办学原则,尖锐指出金钱成了美国大学学术领域里的万恶之源,使大学堕落成颁发文凭、证明职业资格的机构。哈钦斯提出教育的实质是发展人的理性,训练能导致理智的行动,其教育思想在一定程度上促成了当代高等学校办学模式由分科向综合的转换。
Huechins,was a famous educational tranformer and thinker of America,"General Edu-cation"was the key point of his educational thoughts.He brought forth this idea under the backgroundof overflowing utilitarianism and functionalism and designed courses at two levels,which were"basiceducation"and"professional education".He made great effort in maintaining academic freedom andthe independence of university.He harshly criticized that money was the evil source of everything at u-niversity,as it put university into an organization of granting diploma and certificate of vocationalqualification.Huechins pointed out that the essence of education was to develop human being's rationthat can cause rational action.Huechins's educational thought promoted the transformation of modernhigher deucational model from separate education to general education.
