摘要
任何一种语言,都是其文化的载体,都各有其语言禁忌和由此产生的禁忌语和委婉语。英汉两种语言在禁忌语和委婉语的使用上存在着相似之处,又有所不同。本文尝试对英汉禁忌语和委婉语的异同之处进行对比分析,并在此基础上提出,在英汉互译中,对于禁忌语和委婉语的翻译可以采用直译、意译、套译和加注翻译等四种处理技巧,以期有助于译者在翻译实践中更准确地传达原文的信息和文化内涵,从而使读者能跨越语言和文化差异的鸿沟,成功地实现交际的目的。
Every language, as a carrier of its culture, has its own linguistic taboos and euphemisms. This pa- per tries to make a contrastive analysis of similarities and differences of taboos and euphemisms in English and Chinese. On the basis of the contrastive analysis and in light of the difficulties often met in the transla- tion of taboos and euphemisms, four skills for the English-Chinese and Chinese-English translation of ta- boos and euphemisms are put forward. The four translation skills, namely literal translation, free transla- tion, using the similar replacements in the target language and adding notes or explanations, are proposed in the hope of helping translators convey the information and cultural connotation of the source text more ac- curately,thus making the readers bridge the gap between the two languages and their cultural differences and communicate successfully.
