摘要班克罗夫特图书馆的口述资料采集与收藏始于19世纪70年代,比现代口述历史诞生标志的哥伦比亚大学口述历史研究中心的成立(1948年)早了半个多世纪。其口述资料的采集与收藏经历了两个阶段:19世纪70—80年代的"班克罗夫特口述"阶段;1953年至今的复兴阶段。"班克罗夫特口述"推动了美国口述历史的兴起,而图书馆在口述资料的搜集和提供利用方面的各项举措,如成立"图书馆之友"俱乐部、设立"磁带捐献中心",以及对访谈抄本的"批判式利用"等,对当今从事口述资料收藏的图书馆有很好的借鉴意义。图2。参考文献22。 The oral material collection of Bancroft Library started in the 1970s. It＇s more than half a century earlier than the establishment of Columbia University Oral History Research Office （1948）, which is the symbol of the modem oral history birth. It has experienced two stages： one is the ＂Bancroft Dictations＂ from the 1870s to the 1880s, the other is the revival stage from 1953 till now. The ＂Bancroft Dictations＂ inspired the early oral history programs in America. At the same time, the successful measures which the Bancroft Library has taken to improve the collection and management of the oral material set a good example to other libraries, including the establishment of Friends of Bancroft Library and Donated Tapes Collection together with the ＂crit- ical use＂ of the transcriptions.
