摘要
英国翻译理论家皮特·纽马克把语言界定为六种功能:表情功能,信息功能,祈使功能,美感功能,酬应功能,元语功能。我们可以借助文本类型来认识语言的功能,同时,在某种程度上,对语言功能的认识也对整个翻译的过程起到了指导作用。本文从这六种功能的不同角度出发,用一些例句来说明,翻译的过程只有考虑到不同的语言功能才能使翻译的文本既踏实原文又不失文彩。
Peter Newmark,British translation theorist,defined the language from six aspects:expressive function,informative function,vocative function,aesthetic function,phatic function,metalingual function.The language function can be identified by its text type,to some extent;it is also instructive to the translation process.This article explains from these six aspects through the sentences that translation will be faithful and elegant until the language functions are considered.
