摘要
翟里斯在《聊斋志异》英译本中大量的加注,多到可以和正文相媲美的程度,另一方面,这种大量的注释也和译本的受欢迎程度有一定的关联,同时也能证实这种翻译方式是被接受的。本文从后殖民翻译的视角,回顾中英两国在文化文学方面复杂的权力上的角力,再加上译者本身的身份,从而让译者选择了这种翻译方式。
The quantity of notes used in Giles＇ Strange Stories from a Chinese Studio as an English version of Chinese classic Liao Zhai Zhi Yi is massive enough to compete with that of the translated stories themselves, yet it is probably partly responsible for the popularity of this English version. The very fact has proved the acceptance of the usage of abundant notes. This th presenting the changing esis justifies this translation behavior from the perspective of post-colonial translation studies, by status between Chinese literature and English literature along the history, combined with the complexity of the translator＇ s self-identity.
