摘要
"名从主人,物从中国"是孔子关于专名翻译的最早论述,体现了儒家的"夷夏之辨"思想,即中国的道德礼仪文化优于异族文化的大国文化心态,成为两千多年来中国正统意识形态之一。这种自我中心的文化倾向,是文化本位主义的体现,在不同时期有不同的特点和内容,在翻译实践中表现为中国文化对外来文化的自觉归化。
'Things should be named after their original owner and place' is Confucius' remarks on the translation of proper names.It embodies Confucian thinking on the relationship between Chinese culture and exotic ethnic cultures,namely,the Chinese moral and ritual culture is superior to exotic ethnic cultures.This is the beginning of one of the mainstream ideologies of Han Chinese,which takes different forms in different historical periods.In translation practice,this self-centered,chauvinist thinking has found eloquent expressions in deliberate domestication of foreign cultures.
