Objective:To discuss the regulating role and clinical meaning of TSP- 1 and VEGF in microvascularization of gastric cancer. Methods: A total of 85 cases of gastric carcinoma and its normal tissue were studied with SP immunohistochemical technique to evaluate the relation of the expressions of TSP - 1, VEGF with micmvessel density. Results: ( 1 ) 34 cases for TSP - 1 (40%) and 69 cases for VEGF (81.2%) protein were positive respectively . The expression rate of TSP - 1 and VEGF were higher in gastric carcinoma than in its normal gastric tissue(P 〈0.05). (2). Gastric carcinoma tissue with a high expression of TSP- 1 showed a low value of MVD while a high expression of VEGF showed a high expression of MVD. Conclusions: ( 1 ) It is suggested that TSP - 1 and VEGF play an important role in neovaseularization and invasive growth in gastric carcinoma. The balance down - expression of TSP - 1 and VEGF is one of the key factors for neovaseularization in gastrie cancer.
