Chronic cerebral hypoperfusion is associate with cognitive impairment caused by the normal aging and Alzheimer’s disease. The neurological pathological changes of permanent ligation of bilateral common carotid arteries (2VO) in rats chronic phase are very similar to those of human aging and AD,which are widely used to study the impacts of chronic cerebral hypoperfusion on cognitive impairment and neurodegenerative diseases. In this paper, the relationship between recently research results in 2VO model and human-related diseases are evaluated objectively, which will contribute to a better understanding the view of "chronic cerebral hypoperfusion is the cause of neurodegenerative diseases",and is also helpful to understand the use of 2VO model for suitable experimental study of neurodegenerative diseases and potential neuroprotective mechanisms.
