摘要
《红楼梦》中的饮食名称具有浓厚的中国传统文化色彩,准确翻译这类饮食名称必须慎重考虑文化因素。以杨宪益夫妇和霍克思的两个《红楼梦》英译本为依据,对比分析小说中一些典型饮食名称的翻译,可以看出:由于不同国家、民族的文化存在差异,词汇语义必然打上文化烙印,隐含不同文化内涵。语言翻译必须是建构在一定的文化基础上的信息交流,要尽可能再现源语语篇的文化信息和确保译语语篇的可读性及可接受性。
The dietary names in A Dream of Red Mansions carry with themselves rich implications of Chinese culture and their translation should take the relevant cultural elements into consideration. A contrastive study of some typical dietary names in the two English versions of A Dream of Red Mansions by David Hawkes and Yang Xianyi and Gladys Yang will reveal different cultural implications in the semantic choices and in diction. Thus, translation is an exchange of information with the given culture as the foundation and aims to reproduce the cultural information of the source text and to ensure the readability and acceptability of the target text.
