摘要
麦克法夸尔以研究中国"文化大革命"史著称于世,国内学界对其成果多有译介。但他创办并主编《中国季刊》(1960-1968),积极组织学术活动,为促进西方当代中国研究做出的努力却鲜为人知。文章考察了麦克法夸尔创办《中国季刊》的历程,介绍了他担任主编期间组织的主要学术活动,并就其推动西方中国学从政策研究向学术研究转变的历史贡献进行了简要述评。
Roderick MacFarquhar was well known for his study on Chinese ＂Cultural Revolution＂. Although many of his academic achievements have been translated into Chinese, some of his works are little known, such as founding and editing ＂China Quarterly＂ （1960-1968）, actively organizing academic activities and promoting western academic study on contemporary Chinese history. This paper investigates the history that MacFarquhar founded the China Quarterly, introduces his main academic activities during the period when he was the editor-in-chief of the China Quarterly, and briefly reviews his historical contribution that promoted western China Studies to change from policy research to academic research.
