摘要
学生支持服务是远程教育领域的一个重要概念,也是远程教育对教育学基础理论和实践发展的一个重大贡献,其思想产生于英国开放大学的远程教育实践。大卫·西沃特是远程教育领域"学生支持服务"概念的创始人和始作俑者,"持续关注"理论的倡导者和实践家。文章重点论述了大卫·西沃特对学生支持服务概念的提出、理论发展和实践创新,并就其思想对当前我国远程教育研究和实践工作的启示进行了讨论。
Student support, originating from distance education practices in the Open University (UK), is an important concept in distance education and an important contribution to the fundamentals of pedagogy and educational practices. David Sewart was not only creator of the theory of student support but also an enthusiastic advocator and practitioner of continuity of concern.This article summarizes Sewart's theory from three aspects: the components of student support systems, the essence of student support, and student support as a service industry. It also points out one of Sewart's innovative contributions to distance education, i.e. how to play the role of tutor-counselor and how to manage the tutor-counselor team.It is argued in the article that the theory of student support is of relevance in China's distance education context and that China may benefit from this theory in exploring for best practice, highlighting administrative features of distance education institutions, providing distance education as a service industry and recruiting and training qualified student support staff.
