Objective To observe the effects of an expanded application of health education for schistosomiasis control in adult men. Method 3 hyper-endemic villages around Poyang Lake were selected and health education of compliance in case screen and chemotherapy plus training in prevention of infection was adopted in target population. Result Among target population in 3 villages and compared the results before and after intervention, the passed rates of schistosomiasis control knowledge increased from 73.79%, 67.97% and 79.56% to 93.29% ,96.88% and 94. 16% , the correct rates of attitude in case screen from 53.05%, 42. 97%, and 49.64% to 92. 07% ,88.28% and 90. 51% ,the correct rates of attitude in treatment from 57.93% ,52. 34% and 62. 77% to 95.73%, 91.41% and 94. 16%, the compliance rates in stool examination increased from 41.46%,31.25% and 37.23% to 90. 24%,85.16% and 88.32%, the compliance rates in treatment from 46.95%, 38.28% and 40. 88% to 92. 07%, 89.84% and 93.43% respectively. There was no significant changes in main mode of water-contact (for adult men being fishing) and the frequency of contacting infested-water and schistosome infection rate. Conclusion This health education pattern could improve compliance with regard to examination and treatment of schistosomiasis among target population, and the authors suggest that this education pattern merits expanded application in endemic areas.
