摘要
英语社会用语由于语言和文化差异,如果使用不当将会失去语用功能,带来交际上的困难甚至障碍。通过对浙江省湖州市一些旅游景点标示英语中出现的问题,在分析原因的基础上提出相应对策,旨在净化标示英语,使其真正成为对外宣传的“窗口”。
Owing to the differences between English and Chinese in language and culture, the public English signs will lose their pragmatic functions and bring tourists difficulties or even barriers in comprehension if they are improperly translated from Chinese to English. This paper is a detailed analysis of the problems in the public English signs in the tourist sites of Huzhou, Zhejiang Province. The objective of this study is to analyze the pragmatic failures in the public English signs translated from Chinese and to offer effective measures to solve the problems so as to enable the public English signs to become the windows for setting up a good image of the city in opening to the outside world.
