摘要
由于源语与目的语以及与之相关的文化之间存在的差异,“变通”通常成为通往理想译文不可或缺的手段。文章从探讨变通的本质入手,进而分析了变通的理据以及变通的原则,认为翻译变通不可随意为之,必须基于语用推理,语用推理可以确保原文深层意义的延传。判断变通手段得体与否要依据使用该变通手段所产出的译文是否忠实准确,以及它所服务的读者对象是否乐于接受而定。
To bridge up the differences between the source and target, language and culture, adaptations at various levels are often resorted to in translation. The author of this paper makes a tentative study of the nature and the basis of adaptations as well as principles observed by the translators in making adaptations. The author holds that the adaptations must be done cautiously on the basis of pragmatic inference as they can ensure accuracy in con- veying the meaning of the source text （ST）. To the author, whether an adaptation is appropriate or not depends on whether the target text （TF） it produces is accurate and acceptable to the TF readers.
