Objective: To investigate the levels of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) receptors (FLT- 1 and KDR) of psoriatic lesions, and to explore its significance in the pathogenesis of psoriasis. Methods: The expression of FLT - 1 and KDR in 37 patients with psoriasis vulgaris and 37 normal controls were measured by immunohistochemistry technique (SABC). Results: Tile expressions of FLT- 1 and KDR in psoriatic lesions were remarkably higher than those in normal controls ( P 〈 0.001 ). The expression of KDR in psoriatic lesions was higher than that of FLT - 1' s ( P 〈 0.05 ), and the expression of KDR in psoriatic lesions was positively correlated to PASI ( r = 0.93, P 〈 0.001 ). Conclusion: VEGF receptors ( FLT - 1 and KDR) play an important role in the angiogenesis in psoriasis, of which KDR plays a more important role. Anti - angiogenesis by blocking the VEGF receptors may be an effective therapy in the treatment of psoriasis.
