[Objectives] To investigate the risk factors of malnutrition in children and to provide scientific evidence for prevention of malnutrition. [Methods] 1 : 2 casecontrol study was conducted. 151cases and 302 controls were interviewed with an uniformed questionnaire and the relationship between risk factors and malnutrition were analyzed by conditional univariate and multivariate logistic regression analysis. [Results] Fourteen factors associated with malnutrition were identified in one-way variance model as follows: level of mothers' education, low family income, inharmonious family, divorce of parents, absence of mothers' nutrition knowledge, well done intake of fruit, eating vegetable frequently, adequate soybean food, eating meal or/and egg or/and milk frequently, food preference, poor appetite, eating much more snacks, serious disease in the last two months, falling sick frequently. Multivariate conditional logistic regression analysis showed that the risk factors of malnutrition would involve low family income(OR=3. 0419), inharmonious family(OR=2.6347), absence of mother's nutrition knowledge( OR= 3. 2851 ), food preference (OR=4. 5821 ), falling sick frequently (OR=2. 1632). Factors as high education level of mother (OR=0. 5162), well-done intake of vegetable (OR=0. 4794), eating meal or/and egg or/and milk frequently (OR=0. 2319)were protective factors for malnutrition. [Conclusion] The malnutrition of children were caused by multiple factors, so comprehensive intervention measures should he carried our.
