Translator is the most active entity in the process of translation; however, scholars hold conflicting views on how actively translator's subjectivity works in translating. In the post-modernist context, two diverged tendencies exist: one holds the stance, influenced by Phenomenology and Hermeneutics and other literary reviews, that translator is entitled to paraphrasing the text, what is more, translator manipulates the text; the other, under the influence of Neo-histoficism and Foucault' s theory of Power and Discourse, takes the social factors into consideration and advances the idea that translator is manipulated by multi-social factors such as political ideology, cultural deposits, historical tradition and social ethics. This paper looks into these two tendencies and points out impartiality of each; and lastly, puts forward the idea of translator' s anti-manipulatiun.
