摘要
大学肩负着人文的理想,是人类精神的家园。大学为“大”体现为:有大家谓大,有大师谓大,有大学生谓大,有大业谓大。大学尚“学”体现为:大学是人才的摇篮,知识的集散地,科技的源泉,社会的良心和向导,学术与精神的殿堂。大学造就一种文化氛围,这既源于对高深知识的探讨、也为着对高深知识的探讨。这种文化氛围提供着大学教育的物质需求和精神养料,对人产生的影响不仅在教,而且在化,也就是教而化之。
A university armed with a humanistic ideal, is human beings′spiritual home. The greatness of a university is embodied by the fact it owns great masters, great authorities, great students and great undertakings. A university attaches importance to learning. It is embodied by the fact that a university is the cradle of talented people, the collecting and distributing center of knowledge, the fountainhead of sciences and technologies, the consciousness and guide of the society, the palace of academics and spirit. A university can create a cultural atmosphere which results from and, at the same time, serves the exploration for advanced and profound knowledge. This cultural atmosphere supplies the tertiary education with material demands and intellectual nutrient. This atmosphere′s influence on the people lies in the process of teaching and cultivation as well. That is culturation.
