摘要
该文对汉语文字学中的若干术语的英译形式进行了探讨。作者指出 :“甲骨文”、“卜”、“贞”、“石鼓文”等甲骨学、古文字学术语的现有英译形式是不准确的 ;其误译的严重性已极大地妨碍了学术的发展。因此 ,类似的术语应有新的、准确的英译形式。论文提出术语英译的三大设想 :1.不使用拼音翻译术语。 2 .以最新的科研成果为准绳进行意译。 3.根据名从主人的原则 ,英译后应括注中文。
This paper discusses the English translation of some terms of Chinese Philology. The author points out that terms such as “甲骨文 (the oracle inscriptions)”, “卜 (to crack)”, “贞 (to divine)” “石鼓文 (the stone drum inscriptions)”were not accurately translated into English. Such mistranslation results in the obstruction of the development of this discipline. Therefore, it is necessary to improve the English translation of these terms. Meanwhile, the author suggests that, in translating Chinese philological terms into English, (1) we should not resort to transliteration; (2) instead, we must adopt paraphrasing according to the newest research results; and (3) Chinese characters signifying the term should be added in brackets after the English translation.
