The pathways to achieving carbon neutrality at the city level are diverse due to varying energy supply and demand conditions.Shanghai faces obstacles such as limited land resources,high costs of renewable energy techn...The pathways to achieving carbon neutrality at the city level are diverse due to varying energy supply and demand conditions.Shanghai faces obstacles such as limited land resources,high costs of renewable energy technologies,and instability of renewable energy.These challenges hinder the city’s efforts to achieve carbon peak and carbon neutrality(dual carbon).Therefore,Shanghai must identify and optimize its development path for renewable energy under the dual carbon goal.We employed the Low Emissions Analysis Platform Shanghai(LEAP-SH)model to simulate the impact of policies,such as industrial upgrading,energy efficiency improvement,energy structure optimization,increased technical innovation on energy,and ecological restoration,on the carbon emission pathways from 2022 to 2060 using five different scenarios.Our results indicate that Shanghai has the potential to achieve carbon neutrality in 2059 by promoting carbon reduction,pollution control,and green expansion.Moreover,we determined that the manufacturing industry;power generation industry;and transportation,storage,and mail services are the three major sectors for emission reduction under the dual carbon goal.Furthermore,the capacity and output of coal-fired power plants will be gradually replaced by offshore wind power in the dual carbon pathway.Finally,this study proposes countermeasures and suggestions for Shanghai to attain the dual carbon goal and high-quality development.展开更多
Hydrogen,as a zero-carbon secondary energy carrier,provides a unified pathway for low-carbon energy transformation.In electro–hydrogen coupling systems(EHCSs),surplus renewable power is stored via water electrolysis ...Hydrogen,as a zero-carbon secondary energy carrier,provides a unified pathway for low-carbon energy transformation.In electro–hydrogen coupling systems(EHCSs),surplus renewable power is stored via water electrolysis and later reconverted to electricity using fuel cells or gas turbines,enhancing the system’s flexibility and reliability in support of deep decarbonization.This study constructs an electricity–hydrogen energy-recycling model based on a coupling relationship considering the bidirectional conversion between electricity and hydrogen.A multistage carbon-emission-reduction indicator constraint is also established.Additionally,the green-certificate and carbon trading markets are introduced to optimize equipment investment and operation costs while achieving carbon-emission reduction.A case study reveals that the proposed EHCS planning model effectively allocates carbon emissions across different system stages,while mitigating economic repercussions,thus ensuring closer alignment with China’s emission-reduction policies.Incorporating diverse market mechanisms significantly enhances the system’s economy and decision-making flexibility,particularly in addressing future challenges in the energy market.展开更多

With the in-depth advancement of China’s dual carbon goals,the national carbon emissions trading market has become a core policy tool for achieving emission reduction targets.However,the current carbon market remains...With the in-depth advancement of China’s dual carbon goals,the national carbon emissions trading market has become a core policy tool for achieving emission reduction targets.However,the current carbon market remains predominantly spot-based,facing challenges such as limited financial products,restricted market participants,immature carbon pricing mechanisms,and insufficient liquidity,which constrain its resource allocation and risk management functions.Based on the spirit of the“Opinions on Promoting Green Low-Carbon Transformation and Strengthening National Carbon Market Construction”issued by the General Office of the CPC Central Committee and the General Office of the State Council,this paper focuses on the challenges faced during the implementation of the dual control system for carbon emissions in the“Fifteenth Five-Year Plan”period,with emphasis on analyzing the development bottlenecks of the carbon market.It proposes accelerating the launch of carbon futures,carbon options and other derivatives,expanding the scope of financial institution participation,improving carbon market infrastructure,and establishing a cross-departmental coordinated policy framework.By drawing on international experience and combining domestic pilot practices,this aims to provide an operational and implementable pathway for the development of China’s carbon market,further enhancing the supporting role of the carbon market in green low-carbon transformation.展开更多
