摘要
近代自由主义的兴起并不是西方普遍主义传统的终结,而只是对基督教普遍主义的替代和超越。它用人性普遍主义代替了基督教的神性普遍主义,用人权普遍主义代替了基督教的神权普遍主义,用规范普遍主义代替了基督教的价值普遍主义。自由主义普遍主义体现着个人主义的基本精神。它为克服基督教普遍主义的弊端提供了一套新的替代方案,但是其本身并没有摆脱普遍主义的内在悖论,它缓和了内部的冲突,却加剧了与外部世界的冲突。
Universalism is the distinct character of Western cultural tradition.The rise of modern liberalism does not mean the end of Western universalist tradition,but the substitution and surpassing to the Christian universalism.It substitutes humanity universalism for Christian deity universalism,substitutes human rights universalism for Christian religious authority universalism,and substitutes normative universalism for Christian value universalism.Liberal universalism embodies individualistic basic spirit.It provides a new set of substitution scheme for overcoming the malady of Christian universalism,but it cannot make itself to get rid of the internal paradox of universalism,namely,that it aggravates the conflict with the external world while it mitigates internal conflict.
