Based on Maslow's theory of needs and the power control theory developed in modern academic circle, the paper conducts a detailed analysis of the character portrayal in Fitzgerald's three representative works. It states that the different types of loss are a whole manifestation of the failure of personal development under power control of higher social class. Fitzgerald felt lost too, like his protagonists. It's a representation of loss of culture.
