This article reports the effects of meteorological factors on cardiopulmo- nary mortality in Chengdu during the period of 1982~1989.Multiple stepwise regression was used to analyse the data. It was found that the total mortality of cardiovascular, heart and respir- atory diseases and the mortality of cerebrovascular disease were negatively correlated with hours of sunshine. The total mortality of cardiovascular diseases and the mortality of cerebrovascular diseases were positively correlat- ed with air temperature, while the mortality of cor pulmonale,bronchitis,as- thma and emphysema were inversely correlated with air temperature. The total mortality of cardiovascular and respiratory diseases and the mortality of ce- rebrovascular diseases were negatively correlated with rainy days. There was also a positive correlation between the foggy days and mortality of pneumonia, brochitis, asthma and emphysema respectively. Statistically,Chengdu's meteorological factors such as sunshine hours, air temperature, rainy days and foggy days were found to influence cardiopulmo- nary mortality to some extent.
