The existence of trace low-molecular weight alcohols is conducive to the hydrogenation of butynediol to butenediol over a Raney-Nickel catalyst, but in the end it will reduce the formation rate of butanediol.Methanol has the most deleterious effect.The decrease in the formation rate of butanediol is attributed to the deposition of Cu and Bi in the reaction solutions on Ni.The poisonous influence of Al^(+++)ions on Ni is not significant.
