In the long history of rhetoric, metaphor has been regarded as the deviation of normal language. Cognitive linguistics breaks through the prescribed regularities in rhetoric and provides a brand new perspective to the study of metaphor. In cognitive linguistics, metaphor is one part of the linguistic system, and the way we think and behave. It happens in the process of mapping from source domain to target domain on the basis of similarities. Our comprehension of metaphor is based on the shared experience and perception, and relevant context as well as culture models.
