作者概述了亚太、美洲和非洲3大竹区的竹林资源及其经营情况,综述了各国用竹造纸、竹笋生产、竹材加工,以及竹制品和竹建筑、竹林环境利用现状,提出了发展竹林资源、开发竹产品、开拓市场等对策.
Bamboo is one of the forest resources. There are over 1 200 species of bam-boos belonging to more than 70 genera in the world. The bamboo forests total about 20million ha in thc whole world. Among the three bamboo regions in Asia and the Pacific,America and Africa, the Asian and Pacific Region is the largest one. The area of bam-boo forests and the bamboo production in China and India occupy the foremost positionin the world bamboo industry. The shoot-producing forests in Japan have their outstand-ing features. Japan and China are noted for high level of bamboo forest management,while most bamboo forests in other countries lie wild, and are subject to abusive felling.They give low bamboo yield due to extensive management. Bamboo has long, slender fi-bers, with good plasticity, suitable for pulp, rayon and cellophane making. Bambooshoot is a sort or health food, easy of digestion, avoiding poisoning and infection ofintestinal cancer. Since 1970s, research on bamboo replacing wood has been con-ducted. Now the wood replaced by bamboo amounts over 100, 000m^3. The current bam-boo products include bamboo mat plywood, bamboo plywood, bamboo shaveboard, bamboo thread cement board, bamboo parquet floor, peeled bamboo vencerand bamboo plastics. The latter three have been sold on the international market. Bam-boo forests not only can conserve soil and water, but also can contribute to the develop-ment of tourism industry. The economic returns gained from Planting Diatryophoraindusiata, Lentinus edodes, Jew's ear, medical herbs and nowers in the bamboostands are 5～10 times that of bamboo materials and bamboo shoots.
