A design oriented structural analysis capability for filament wound composite pressure vessels that utilize membrane theory and classical laminate plate theory is described.The paper focuses on the filament wound composite pressure vessel model definition and associated analytical formulation.Typical analysis results for filament wound composite axisymmetrical shells are presented and compared with those from conventional finite element analyses to assess the accuracy of this analysis capablility.
