The geologic structure, the characteristics of seismicity and the damage caused by earthquakes in the areas under the jurisdiction of Zhangjiakou city and its vicinity areas are analyzed; the significance and necessity to conduct fortification against earthquakes and seismic safety evaluation for construction engineering are discussed; the times and urgency for putting the demands of fortification against earthquakes and the management of seismic safety evaluation of construction engineering into the management procedure of capital construction are expounded.
