Objective To study the relation between telomerase activity and human papillomavirus(HPV)infection in cervical cancer. Methods In situ hybridization and in situ PCR were used to detected the telomerase activity and HPV DNA in66cases of cervical cancer and in25cases of cervical intraepithial neoplasia (CIN).Results The rate of telomerases positive expression in cervical cancer was92.4%(61/66).It was significantly higher than that in the CIN (χ 2 =33.24,P<0.001).HPV positive rate was78.8%(52/66)in cervical cancer,of which telomerases of51(98.1%)cases is positive(χ 2 =11.188,P<0.001).Conclusion There is a close relationship of the HPV infection and telomerases activity.HPV infection might have etiologic significance for cervical cancer. The high telomerases activity could be a marker of biomolecular change in cervical cancer.
