Objective To explore the relationship between orphanin (OFQ) and monoamine neurotransmitters in the patients with postpartum depression (PPD). Methods 17 patients with postpartum depression (PPD group) and 25 healthy lying women (control group) were studied. The concentrations of plasma OFQ were measured by radioimmunoassay. The levels of 5-HT and DA were measured with high-pressure liquid chromatography with electrocheimcal detector. Results (1)The levels of plasma OFQ in PPD gruop and control group were (27.39±6.0) ng/L and (10.37±3.65) ng/L respectively, The level of OFQ in PPD group was significantly higher than that of the control grup ( P<0.01 ). The level of plasma 5-HT in PPD group was (0.93±0.21) μmol/L, significantly lower than that of the control group which was (1.43±0.36) μmol/L, The level of 5-HT in PPD grup decreased significantly ( P<0.05 ). The levels of plasma DA in PPD group was (2.15±0.41) μmol/L, which was signficantly lower than that of the control group (3.64±0.72) μmol/L. (2) In the PPD group, there was a significant negative correlation between the OFQ and monoamine neurotransmitters level ( P<0.05 ). (3) The levels of EPSDS were negatively correlated to 5-HT and DA( P<0.05 ), Significant correlation were found between the EPDS and OFQ ( P<0.05 ).Conclusions The PPD was associated with OFQ and monoamine neurotransmitters. The changes of OFQ levels may play an important role in the pathogenesis of the PPD.
