摘要
我国英语专业近十年来取得了很大的发展，但置身于国家经济社会文化教育等方面的新的发展中，也面临着巨大的挑战和机遇，而英语专业的定位问题是应付挑战、把握机遇、使专业在新世纪得以高质量持续发展的关键。本文试图说明认识英语专业定位问题的重要性，并提出对这一问题的一些思考，以期引起更多的关注和讨论。
The social, economic and cultural development of China poses new challenges as well as opportunities for the Discipline of English in Chinese universities. The article argues for necessities to redefine the role and objectives of English as a discipline and proposes possible strategies for its future development.
